Replica of the 1963 E-Type raced at Le Mans by the American Racing Team driven by Briggs Cunningham. This car has all of the light weight features and in the cockpit and under the bonnet the car looks the part. It would be hard to tell the difference for the real thing.

This Challenger was built in my own commercial garage. I started my career in race engine development and went back to some of my old colleagues to have work done to the engine. It has been bored out from 4.2 to 4.5 litres, the bottom end has been lightened and balanced, the cylinder head and manifolds were flowed by Spike Anderson at Silverstone, one of the top cylinder head specialists in the world and the exhaust manifold and front pipes were manufactured by Graham Smart of GDS, internationally renowned race exhaust manufacturers who are based just off the Silverstone circuit. It was set up on a rolling road at Castle Combe race circuit.

The description on the registration document is "2 Axle Rigid Body Jaguar". The original donor car was a Mk X from which the chassis plate and registration number was transferred, so the registration number is correct with the Series 1 1/2 E-Type on which the Challenger kit was based. The driver's side floorpan has been lowered by ~1" to give a more comfortable driving position (as happened between the E-Type Series 1 & 1 1/2). The car has triple SUs, a 4 speed with overdrive gearbox, powerlock differential, chrome wire wheels, burr walnut dashboard with Jag instruments etc. In short, you would be very hard pressed to find a Challenger with more of a pedigree.

CHALLENGER E-Type Roadster This Challenger has been owned by me for the last 8 years. It was built by CCC agent in Newton Stewart as a demonstrator and completed in July 1990 but was sold on privately due to CCC ceasing trading. I purchased the car in 2003 and it was refurbished by ‘SAS Jaguar’ specialists in the Midlands over a period of months (see pics) Registered in 1972 it is a ‘Jaguar historic vehicle’ so no road tax. It has a 4.2 engine and 4 speed plus overdrive gearbox plus a new stainless steel fuel tank, twin electric fans, electric water pump etc. and has been reliably abroad to Le Mans several times. The chassis has been modified by Tony Kimber, the Challenger Owners Club secretary, to enable a new clutch (just fitted) to be replaced without removing the engine. I have always cherished this car because of its CCC originality and its pure Jaguar look. My only reason for selling is to purchase another Jaguar replica!!
